2023: Donald Duke declares resolve to deliver PDP candidates
ANIEKAN ANIEKAN, Calabar
Former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has declared his solid determination to drive the campaign train of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections.
Donald Duke who was appointed the PDP Campaign Council Chairman in Cross River State also stated that he could vouch for the party’s governorship candidate for Cross River State, Professor Sandy Onor.
The former governor will be assisted by former deputy governor Efiok Cobham as Director General of the Council as well as over one thousand other members.
Defending his support for Professor Sandy, Duke said he knows his pedigree and also Sandy has a track record.
He faulted proponents of zoning in the state saying it should not be at the expense of the people and wondered what they did when TINAPA business resort went down.
“I am glad it’s Professor Sandy that is our candidate and I can stake for this man because I know who he is, his pedigree and he has a track record.
“Those who are shouting back here, back there it’s good but not at our expense.
“I don’t mind a Chinese man being a governor of Cross River State if we will get it right.
“I will like to have my brother on the seat but not at the expense of getting it right.
“Those who are shouting back here, back there we have TINAPA here did they say anything.
“We had ours here (TINAPA), which one of them said we can’t invest so much in this and let it die.
“If you know all the banks that invested in that project, banks can’t be that stupid, nearly every bank in Nigeria invested in that project, the World Bank, IFC, they all invested in that project.
“That project was to drive traffic of nearly three million people annually into our state and that was conservative because carnival alone brought in over half a million people into our state, we have to get our state back”, Duke said.
He stressed that if someone who is underperforming is elected, that person is shortchanging the entire state because there are other people who can do the job well.
He added that governance is like a factory work and every one does his shift but when you pull down the factory every time there is a shift then everyone suffers.
He said he no longer visits the Obudu Ranch Resort because he hears tales of woe.
He expressed regrets that there was once a state but charged the people to join hands and reclaim the state.
He said the challenge before the people of Cross River State is to head – haunt the best among us to lead our state.
He said Professor Sandy has the capacity to do the job and he has no doubt about him .
On his part, Professor Sandy Onor the state PDP gubernatorial flag-bearer said everyone will be carried along.
He advised party-men to keep working hard, do good works because their time is coming.
He thanked the party leadership for finding them worthy to lead the restoration campaign saying it’s a task they must deliver.
