NGX maintains bullish trend as investors gain N662.36m
Equities trading at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Tuesday was positive, extending gains for the fifth consecutive session.
The local bourse closed higher as the benchmark index gained 0.04 per cent to settle at 49,416.18 basis points.
The Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns of the All Share Index (ASI) remained unchanged at +3.7 per cent and +15.7 per cent, respectively.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 100,093,729 shares in 3,186 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,295,838,173.89, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, December 19), today’s data shows 30% improvement in volume, 2% decline in turnover, and 2% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 26.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 102 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 11 gainers and 16 losers. UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust led the gainers with 8.62% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3.15 per share, followed by Royal Exchange (+5.95%), Ardova (+4.19%) and Vitafoam Nigeria (+3.57%). On the losing side, Neimeth International Pharma came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.66% at NGN 1.31 per share, followed by SCOA Nigeria (-9.41%), UPDC (-7.07%) and RT Briscoe (-6.9%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 16.4 million traded shares, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (9.26m), United Bank for Africa (7.12m) and FTN Cocoa Processors (7.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 1.22 points to close at 49,416.18, representing a 1-week gain of 1.15%, a 4-week gain of 9.99%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 15.68%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.02%; +0.83% 1WK; -2.61% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0%; +1.22% 1WK; +3.81% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.27%; +2.15% 1WK; +2.51% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.22%; +0.57% 1WK; +30.01% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.08%; +1.22% 1WK; +7.14% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.02%; +1.41% 1WK; +12.57% YTD).
