NGX: Investors record N13.07bn gain as ASI appreciates marginally by 0.05%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 24 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.05% to close at 49,499.43 basis points as against a 0.12% gain recorded previously to close at 49,475.43 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N13.07bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 132,571,047 shares in 2,999 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,144,020,832.97, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, December 21), today’s data shows 68% decline in volume and 50% decline in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 27 trillion.
In the aggregate, 103 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 17 gainers and 14 losers. Julius Berger Nigeria led the gainers with 9.91% share price appreciation closing at NGN 23.30 per share, followed by Champion Breweries (+9.3%), Ardova (+9.2%) and Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+8.82%).
On the losing side, UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 6.45% at NGN 2.90 per share, followed by Lasaco Assurance (-5.56%), University Press (-5.26%) and Wapic Insurance (-5%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 29.1 million traded shares, followed by Sterling Bank (18.4m), Nigerian Breweries (10.5m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (6.64m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 24.00 (0.05%) points to close at 49,499.43, representing a 1-week gain of 0.54%, a 4-week gain of 6.21%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 15.88%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.21%; +1.22% 1WK; -2.05% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.01%; +0.37% 1WK; +3.97% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.62%; +2.22% 1WK; +8.53% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.26%; +0.44% 1WK; +30.45% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.15%; +0.76% 1WK; +25.83% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.04%; +1.17% 1WK; -4.59% YTD).
