NGX closes positive as investors gain N518bn, ASI grows by 1.89%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 951.06 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 1.89% to close at 51,251.06 basis points as against a 0.73% gain recorded previously to close at 50,300 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N518.01bn gain.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 890,682,055 shares in 3,566 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,355,665,086.39, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, December 29), today’s data shows 199% improvement in volume, 35% improvement in turnover, but 20% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 27.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 108 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 17 losers. Presco led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 137.50 per share, followed by Caverton Offshore Support Group (+10%), Airtel Africa (+9.88%) and Computer Warehouse Group (+9.78%).
On the losing side, Royal Exchange came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.4% at NGN 1.06 per share, followed by Fidson Healthcare (-8.16%), UAC of Nigeria (-7.66%) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (-6.9%). Sovereign Trust Insurance recorded the highest volume of 524 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (177m), Sterling Bank (39.8m) and Presco (12.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 951.06 (1.89%) points to close at 51,251.06, representing a 1-week gain of 3.59%, a 4-week gain of 7.53%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 19.98%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.5%; +2.91% 1WK; +6.98% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.15%; +3.17% 1WK; +0.85% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+3.6%; +6.01% 1WK; +33.18% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.4%; +4.46% 1WK; -11.99% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.09%; +4.78% 1WK; -0.06% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +0.17% 1WK; +19.67% YTD).
