NGX: Investors record N187.7bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.67%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 344.60 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.67% to close at 51,595.66 basis points as against a 1.89% gain recorded previously to close at 51,251.06 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N187.7bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 129,174,780 shares in 4,121 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,039,804,818.94, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, December 30), today’s data shows 85% decline in volume, 72% decline in turnover, but 16% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 23 gainers and 11 losers. BUA Foods led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 71.50 per share, followed by John Holt (+9.59%), Prestige Assurance Company (+9.52%) and Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (+9.38%). On the losing side, Chellarams came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.82% at NGN 2.02 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (-8.91%), FCMB Group (-8.83%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (-5.98%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 15.1 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (13.8m), Aiico Insurance (12.2m) and United Bank for Africa (8.15m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 344.60 (0.67%) points to close at 51,595.66, representing a 1-week gain of 4.23%, a 4-week gain of 8.27%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 0.67%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.64%; +3.55% 1WK; +0.64% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.31%; +3.27% 1WK; +0.31% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+3.6%; +8.51% 1WK; +3.6% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+2.6%; +2.79% 1WK; +2.6% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.55%; +7.46% 1WK; +2.55% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+1%; +2.71% 1WK; +1% YTD).
