NGX: Investors record N89.14bn loss as ASI decline by 0.31%
Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator advanced by 163.66 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.31% to close at 52,348.82 basis points as against a 0.89% loss recorded previously to close at 52,512.48 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N89.14bn loss.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 221,854,219 shares in 5,219 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,249,695,309.87, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, January 13), today’s data shows 2% improvement in volume, 27% improvement in turnover, and 14% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 113 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and 23 losers. Presco led the gainers with 9.67% share price appreciation closing at NGN 150.80 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance (+9.52%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+7.14%) and Associated Bus Company (+6.9%).
On the losing side, Chellarams came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.7% at NGN 1.21 per share, followed by Prestige Assurance Company (-8.7%), Livestock Feeds (-7.69%) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (-6.25%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 22.9 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (20m), Transcorp Nigeria (14.6m) and FBN Holdings (14.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 163.66 (-0.31%) points to close at 52,348.82, representing a 1-week gain of 1.27%, a 4-week gain of 6.86%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.14%.
