NGX: Investors record N24.59bn loss as ASI depreciates by 0.09%
Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator declined by 63.01 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.09% to close at 52612.55 basis points as against a 0.12% gain recorded previously to close at 52657.69 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N24.59bn loss.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 182,397,318 shares in 3,470 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,821,884,088.88, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, January 23), today’s data shows 27% improvement in volume, 172% improvement in turnover, but 15% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 109 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and 14 losers. Mutual Benefits Assurance led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.33 per share, followed by Unilever Nigeria (+9.91%), C&I Leasing (+9.84%) and Associated Bus Company (+9.68%).
On the losing side, Nigerian Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.9% at NGN 41.85 per share, followed by Caverton Offshore Support Group (-9.52%), Champion Breweries (-8%) and Wapic Insurance (-6.67%). Geregu Power recorded the highest volume of 23.8 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (17.3m), Transcorp Nigeria (16.6m) and Chams (15.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 45.14 (-0.09%) points to close at 52,612.55, representing a 1-week loss of 0.17%, a 4-week gain of 6.29%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.66%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.01%; -0.21% 1WK; +3.09% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.36%; -0.8% 1WK; +2.62% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.36%; -0.6% 1WK; +2.03% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.33%; -0.31% 1WK; +4.36% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.32%; +1.07% 1WK; +5.56% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +0.09% 1WK; +3.64% YTD).
