NGX: Investors record N7.03bn loss as ASI declines by 0.02%
Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator declined by 12.90 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.02% to close at 52,599.65 basis points as against a 0.09% loss recorded previously to close at 52612.55 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N7.03bn loss.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 119,843,974 shares in 3,552 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,689,739,575.92, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, January 24), today’s data shows 34% decline in volume, 44% decline in turnover, but 2% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 16 losers. RT Briscoe led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.33 per share, followed by Tripple Gee & Co. (+10%), Chellarams (+10%) and Okomu Oil Palm (+9.76%). On the losing side, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.66% at NGN 1.31 per share, followed by Cornerstone Insurance Company (-6.9%), Geregu Power (-5.9%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (-5.15%).
Mutual Benefits Assurance recorded the highest volume of 11.3 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (8.75m), Geregu Power (8.54m) and FBN Holdings (7.69m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 12.90 (-0.02%) points to close at 52,599.65, representing a 1-week loss of 0.03%, a 4-week gain of 5.82%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.63%.
