NGX: Investors record N69.33bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.23%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 127.29 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.23% to close at 54,427.05 basis points as against a 0.13% loss recorded previously to close at 54,299.76 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N69.33bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 151,583,263 shares in 2,974 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,810,556,484.64, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, February 7), today’s data shows 24% decline in volume, 76% decline in turnover, and 32% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 11 gainers and 23 losers. Tripple Gee & Co. led the gainers with 9.52% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.15 per share, followed by International Energy Insurance (+9.4%), Japaul Gold and Ventures (+3.45%) and AXA Mansard Insurance (+2.5%).
On the losing side, Trans-Nationwide Express came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.76% at NGN 0.74 per share, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (-7.35%), Courteville Business Solutions (-6%) and Prestige Assurance Company (-4.76%). Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 20 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (18.7m), Guaranty Trust Holding (17m) and Sterling Bank (15.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 127.29 (0.23%) points to close at 54,427.05, representing a 1-week gain of 1.73%, a 4-week gain of 5.21%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 6.2%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.43%; +0.27% 1WK; +5.02% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.21%; +1.9% 1WK; +6.17% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.94%; +0.69% 1WK; +2.83% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.69%; +4.25% 1WK; +8.78% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.39%; +0.08% 1WK; +8.91% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.06%; +1.48% 1WK; +7.49% YTD).
