NGX: Investors record N67.15bn loss as ASI declines by 0.12%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator declined by 67.15 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.12% to close at 54,359.90 basis points as against a 0.23% gain recorded previously to close at 54,427.05 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N36.57bn loss.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 225,377,963 shares in 3,339 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,149,471,552.97, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, February 8), today’s data shows 49% improvement in volume, 74% improvement in turnover, and 12% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 113 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 17 losers. Northern Nigeria Flour Mills led the gainers with 9.74% share price appreciation closing at NGN 10.70 per share, followed by Red Star Express (+9.49%), Trans-Nationwide Express (+9.46%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+9.37%).
On the losing side, Glaxo Smithkline Consumer came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.91% at NGN 6.40 per share, followed by Cornerstone Insurance Company (-4.76%), Veritas Kapital Assurance (-4.76%) and Wapic Insurance (-4.44%). Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 71.8 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (22.3m), Sterling Bank (12.9m) and Aiico Insurance (11.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 67.15 (-0.12%) points to close at 54,359.90, representing a 1-week gain of 0.67%, a 4-week gain of 4.44%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 6.07%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.05%; +0.94% 1WK; +6.12% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.23%; -0.04% 1WK; +4.78% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +0.69% 1WK; +2.83% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.02%; +2.23% 1WK; +8.75% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.2%; -0.45% 1WK; +4.16% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-0.28%; +0.19% 1WK; +7.19% YTD).
