From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
The winner of the House of Representatives election for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency in Imo State, Rt. Hon. Ambassador Uche Ogbuagu, has reiterated his promise of vibrant, resourceful representation in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
Ogbuagu, currently a member of Imo State House of Assembly, made the promise to his kinsmen when his supporters swarmed his residence Sunday night to congratulate and celebrate with him shortly after he was declared the winner of the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal constituency seat in last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly polls.
Ogbuagu, who could not hide his joy before the jubilant crowd, sang praises to the Lord.
He appreciated the people of Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency for the victory they gave him and promised not to let them down.
The people of Akabo, where Ogbuagu hails from, had spontaneously broken into wild jubilation as news of his (Ogbuagu’s) victory spread across the area in the dead of the night.
The happy indigenes, who could not wait till day-break, besieged Ogbuagu’s country home, singing, dancing and embracing each other for the victory.
One of the indigenes, in an interview, praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for allowing the will of the electorate in the Federal Constituency to prevail, despite moves by some desperate politicians to thwart same.
INEC had, last Sunday, declared Ogbuagu, the candidate of the Labour Party, as the House of Representatives member-elect for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal constituency.
He polled a total number of 6,052 votes to emerge the winner of the election held last Saturday. Ogbuagu’s closest rival, Akarachi Amadi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 5,077 votes.
The incumbent member representing the Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Henry Nwawuba of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), got 4,275 votes while Chinonso Uba of the African Democratic Congress scored 3,608 votes.
Also, Osmond Ukanacho of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailed a distant fifth position with 2,581 votes.
