Labour Party dissolves Rivers State Executive Council, affirms Itubo as party’s governorship candidate
National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP) has dissolved the Rivers State Executive Council for gross anti-party activities and corruption in the management of the party’s funds.
LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, said, Tuesday, that the dissolution was with immediate effect.
“The National Working Committee arising from an emergency meeting in Abuja believes that it is in the interest of Labour Party and the ‘Obidient movement’ in Rivers State that those who were at the helm of affairs in Rivers State when our presidential mandate was openly stolen in Rivers State should step aside until full investigation on what happened on that day is completed.
“The National Working Committee has lost confidence in the ability of the compromised State Executive Council led by Mr Deinye Pepple, to lead the campaign for the gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections come March 11th,” Abure stated.
He urged all Labour Party supporters in Rivers State to disregard every comment made by the sacked State Chairman of the Labour Party, Deinye Pepple, on the election of March 11.
Abure who reiterated the full backing of the Labour Party on the candidacy of Comrade (Mrs) Beatrice Itubo as the next Governor of Rivers State, used the opportunity to appeal to all supporters of the party to come out massively on March 11th to vote for her.
It would be recalled that the sacked Rivers State Chairman, Pepple had endorsed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sim Fubara for the governorship election in the state.
However, in a swift response, the Labour Party’s National Working Committee discredited the endorsement stating that the party is not in alliance with any political party.
“We want to state categorically and unequivocally that the national secretariat of LP has not given any instructions for any chapter of the party to liaise or support any candidate except LP candidates in this Saturday’s polls,” Abure said.
