Edited: Atiku prays Tribunal to withdraw Tinubu’s COR, order run-off
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 election, Atiku Abubakar, has filed a petition at the Presidential Election Tribunal (PET) challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as president-elect.
Atiku is asking the tribunal to issue a Certificate of Return (CoR) to him following inability Tinubu to meet the required 25 votes in the Federal Capital Territory. He also wants the tribunal to order run-off election in the event of any tie among the contending parties.
The development which was confirmed by a member of the Atiku legal team, Silas Joseph Onu, Tuesday evening, follows hours after Peter Ob’s legal team had petitioned the tribunal challenging the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Tinubu as winner of that poll.
The petition marked: CA/PEPC/03/2023, listed INEC, Tinubu, his Vice Presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, and the APC as the 1st to 4th respondents, respectively.
The petitioners are praying for the tribunal to declare that Tinubu was not duly elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast at the election.
They also sought the tribunal to order INEC to retrieve the certificate of return issued to the APC candidate.
