Senate confirms Lawal President of FCT Customary Court of Appeal
Senate has confirmed the appointment of Justice Stanley Adekunle Lawal as the substantive President of the Customary Court of Appeal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Justice Lawal has served in an acting capacity for nearly six months after his appointment last October, 2022.
It would be recalled that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Lateef Ariwoola, had last October 2022 swore in Lawal as the acting President of the Customary Court of Appeal.
Lawal was born on October 20, 1959, and he hails from Ondo State.
He graduated from the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1985. He was called to the Nigerian Bar the following year.
He started his career in legal practice during his National Youth Service, which he undertook at the Law Office of Messrs H.O. Davies & Co. from 1986 to 1987.
Thereafter, he worked as Solicitor and Advocate at Olagbegi Saraki & Co. law firm between 1988 and 1994.
However, in 1994, he founded the Law Firm of Kunle Lawal & Co., where he was the Principal Partner before he was appointed a Judge of the Federal Capital Territory Customary Court of Appeal, Abuja, on June 18, 2009.
Hon. Justice Lawal is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, and the International Dispute Resolution Institute.
