NGX: Investors record N622bn loss as ASI declines by 2.08%
Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator declined by 31.55 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 2.08% to close at 53750.77 basis points as against 0.06% loss recorded previously to close at 54,892.53 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N622bn loss.
At the end of the first weekday of trading,a total of 100,882,822 shares in 3,279 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,342,394,278.83, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, March 24), today’s data shows 27% decline in volume, 12% improvement in turnover, and 13% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 103 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with five gainers and 22 losers. Courteville Business Solutions led the gainers with 6.67% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.48 per share, followed by NPF Microfinance Bank (+2.7%), Aiico Insurance (+1.75%) and FBN Holdings (+0.92%).
On the losing side, NCR Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.79% at NGN 2.12 per share, followed by Unity Bank (-9.43%), Prestige Assurance Company (-8.89%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (-8.33%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 12.8 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (11.9m), United Bank for Africa (10m) and MTN Nigeria (8.26m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) plummeted 1,141.76 (-2.08%) points to close at 53,750.77, representing a 1-week loss of 2.07%, a 4-week loss of 2.85%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 4.88%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.37%; -0.25% 1WK; +5.62% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-1.97%; -2.12% 1WK; +4.16% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.14%; -0.69% 1WK; +5.52% YTD), NGX Banking Index (-0.23%; -0.59% 1WK; +4.42% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-0.55%; -0.61% 1WK; -0.36% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.77%; -0.79% 1WK; +8.04% YTD).
