LP, PDP candidates win Reps seats in Anambra, Zamfara, as APC clinches Katsina Assembly seat
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared candidates of the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winners of House of Representatives seats in the Saturday, April 15 supplementary elections conducted in 23 states across the country.
While the LP candidate, Hon Afam Victor Ogene, won the Ogbaru Federal Constituency Supplementary Election 2023 in Anambra, the PDP candidate for the Bukkuyum/Gummi Federal Constituency in Zamfara, Alhaji Sulaiman Gummi was declared winner.
LP’s Ogene beat the incumbent PDP Reps member in Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra State, Hon Chukwuma Onyema, who is a third term member, with a little over 200 votes margin.
Announcing the results at Atani, headquarters of the Ogbaru Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Professor Kingsley Ubaorji, said Hon Ogene polled 10,851 votes of the total votes cast, followed by the PDP’s Hon Onyema who polled 10,619 votes; and Hon Arinze John Awogu of APGA third with 10,155 votes.
Other scores include: Hon Mrs Nkechi Ismade of APC – 303 votes, Nwachukwu Victor of ADC – 39 votes, Obunne Celestine of NNPP – 124 votes, and Nwadialor C of the SDP – 27.
“That Hon Afam Ogene of the Labour Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes cast is declared winner of the election,” the Returning Officer announced.
The PDP won the constituency during the February 25 Presidential election.
Meanwhile, in other results declared by INEC in the April 15 supplementary election, PDP secured candidate for Bukkuyum/Gummi Federal Constituency in Zamfara, Alhaji Sulaiman Gummi, was declared winner of the supplementary election conducted in the constituency on Saturday.
INEC Collation Officer for the supplementary elections, Dr. Lawal Sa’ad said Gummi scored 35,664 votes to defeat his closest opponent of the All Progressives (APC) Ahmad Muhammad who scored 35,058 votes.
Dr Sa’ad said Gummi, having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirements of the law, emerged as winner of this election.
Also, the PDP candidate for Birnin Kudu Constituency, Mr Ibrahim Kabiru, won in the state House of Assembly supplementary election in Jigawa State.
INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Usman Haruna, who declared Kabiru as winner in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, said the PDP candidate polled 36,050 votes to beat his closest rival and the incumbent of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Muhammad Surajo, who polled 34,545 votes.
Haruna said that Muhammad Yakubu of ADC scored 283 votes, Halilu Aliyu of ADP scored 117 votes, Ahmad Abdullahi of LP scored 17 votes, Sulaiman Abdullahi of NNPP scored 722 votes, Musa Mahmud of PPP scared 460 votes and Shuaibu Basiru of SDP scored 14 votes.
“That Ibrahim Kabiru of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” the returning officer said.
INEC also on Saturday, declared Salisu Rimaye of the APC as the winner of the supplementary election for Kankia constituency of Katsina State.
Returning Officer, Dr Kamaluddeen Kabo of the Federal University, Dutsinma declared the result in Kankia.
Kabo said that Rimaye scored 18, 157 votes to beat Abdullahi Ibrahim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 16, 763 votes.
He said the total numbers of registered voters was 78, 224, while 37, 030 were accredited and the total valid vote was 35, 037, while 511 were rejected votes, while the total votes cast was 35, 548.
“I Dr Kamaladdeen Kabo, the Returning officer, Kankia, State Constituency election, held on the April 15, 2023.
“Hereby satisfy that Salisu Rimaye of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” he said.
