NNPC, Golar sign FLNG deal
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced a deal with swith Golar LNG of Norway to build a floating liquefied natural gas plant in the country.
An agreement was reached on the project and signed by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari and Golar counterpart, Mr Karl Fredrik Staubo, in Abuja.
The NNPC Limited tweeted Wednesday night that the deal involves a memorandum of understanding committing both parties to project.
Details of the agreement were not provided, making it imposssible to provide the timelines and budget outlay for the project.
Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) had during the just concluded Nigerian International Energy Summit (NIES) declared that the country’s gas reserves climbed to 209 trillion cubic feet, one of the world’s biggest.
Government is calling for investments in gas to meet rising domestic demand and seeking international revenue opportunities.
Golar has in the past indicated plans to set up a power project in Nigeria that could use one of its vessels to import liquefied natural gas.
