Equities Market gains N95.05bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.33% to close the week
The Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Friday as the NGX-ASI increased by 0.33% to close at 52,465.31 compared to 52,290.75 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +2.37%.
The market capitalization increased by N95.05 billion to N28.5676 trillion from N28.4724 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close, while the market turnover decreased to N5.64 billion from N7.01 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 482,592,611 shares in 5,298 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,641,713,408.66, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, May 4), today’s data shows 37% decline in volume, 2% decline in turnover, and 11% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 37 gainers and 13 losers. Computer Warehouse Group led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.32 per share, followed by Learn Africa (+10%), International Energy Insurance (+9.73%) and Custodian & Allied (+9.65%). On the losing side, Transcorp Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.77% at NGN 1.94 per share, followed by LivingTrust Mortgage Bank (-9.73%), McNichols (-9.72%) and Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (-8.73%).
Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 169 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (53.5m), Fidelity Bank (36m) and Zenith Bank (33.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 174.56 (0.33%) points to close at 52,465.31, representing a 1-week gain of 0.44%, a 4-week loss of 3.26%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 2.37%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.23%; -0.2% 1WK; +2.3% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.35%; -0.2% 1WK; +3.66% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.39%; +4.9% 1WK; +14.12% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.37%; +6.21% 1WK; +10.41% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.07%; +3.19% 1WK; +8.55% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.54%; +0.9% 1WK; +11.48% YTD).
