‘Your Discharge Certificate is fake’ – NYSC tells Enugu Governor-elect, Mbah
Embattled Enugu State Governor-elect, Mr Peter Mbah faced further troubles, Friday, as Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Yushau Ahmed, categorically told him that his Discharge Certificate which he has been parading is fake.
It would be recalled that Mbah had obtained a court injunction restraining the NYSC from commenting on his Discharge Certificate, earlier last week, just as the matter of the document is the one of the subjects of contention in the petition filed by the Labour Party and its governorship candidate Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, challenging the declaration of Mbah by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as governor-elect in the 2023 general election conducted in the state.
NYSC had, in response to an inquiry by a non-governmental organisation, released a letter stating that the Discharge Certificate submitted by Mbah to INEC ahead of the governorship election, was not issued by the Corps.
Meanwhile, speaking while featuring as guest on the Arise Television’s breakfast programme, Friday, May 19, the NYSC boss, Brig Gen Ahmed said described Mbah’s Discharge Certificate as ‘a black market certificate.’
The governor-elect then filed a suit against the NYSC, demanding N20 billion for damages.
“He came to me and I called my director to confirm the certificate and we discovered that the certificate was fake and I told him.
“I wonder how elites who have gone to school will resort to black market certificates.
“Everyone knows how we issue our certificate in NYSC we don’t give it in hotel rooms or houses,” Brig Gen Yushau Ahmed said.
Mbah, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the governorship election in Enugu State had controversially emerged winner defeating the much popular candidate of the Labour Party amid allegations of over-voting and fake Discharge Certificate leveled against him by the latter.
The Labour Party petition challenging Mbah’s emergence as governor-elect is before the Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in Enugu.
