Petrol scarcity: ‘Revert to old pump price,’ Kano Governor directs marketers
Newly-inaugurated Governor of Kano, Abba Yusuf has directed petrol stations and marketers in the state to revert to the old pump price of the product, as he described the sudden hike in the rate of the commodity as ‘unjustified.’
The order followed the hardship experienced by Kano resident who along with other Nigerians have been reeling from the sudden hike in the pump price of petrol hours after a Monday announcement by President Bola Tinubu of his government’s resolve to scrap the petrol subsidy regime, saying ‘No more fuel subsidy’ during his inaugural speech in Abuja, May 29.
Reacting, Governor Yusuf described the recent hike of petrol as unjustified, in a statement issued by his
Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Thursday, as he ordered petrol stations to ‘quickly reopen’ and dispense the products to the public.
“To reduce the needless hardship on the state’s citizens, the marketers should exercise some restraint and quickly reopen all filling stations with available products in stock to sell at the former price.
“As a concerned governor, I am disheartened to see our dear people of Kano suffering as a result of an unjustified fuel hike, and the situation must be stopped right away,” the governor.
The Kano governor, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) which displaced the Al progressives Congress (APC) in the state, has since ordered a probe of all sales and allocations overseen by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, who he accused of ‘immorally looting’ the state.
