LP tenders evidence from 18 states, as PEPT adjourns till Wednesday
Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi have continued with the presentation of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Certified True Copies of declared election results from more states at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) court in Abuja, during Tuesday’s proceedings.
The hearing had two sessions of morning and afternoon; with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar taking the centre stage for the earlier proceedings, while the LP and Peter Obi took over the latter session, according to the PEPT schedule.
The PDP witnesses had stunned the court, Monday, with their bold face stance during cross examination by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and INEC counsels, who had tried to corner them into accepting that Atiku did not qualify to be declared winner of the election on the grounds of not securing 25 per cent of total votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The witness had responded in the affirmative, but returned with: ‘So did Tinubu, but you still declared him winner.’
In today’s proceedings, Labour Party counsel who conducted the presentations, Chief Ben Anechebe SAN, tendered more CTC documents from states and their local government areas (LGAs).
INEC Form EC8B from 20 states, including; Adamawa (21 LGAs), Benue(23 LGAs), Kogi (21 LGAs) , Nassarawa (11 LGAs), Niger (21 LGAs) , Delta (25 LGAs) , Edo (15 LGAs), Ondo (18 LGAs) , Sokoto (12 LGAs), Oyo (27 LGAs), Bayelsa (8 LGAs) , Niger (25 LGAs), Ekiti (11LGAs), Imo (25 LGAs), Kaduna (19 LGAs), Akwa Ibom (31 LGAs) , Lagos (20 LGAs), Cross River (18 LGAs).
However, the LP team did not provide documents from Ebonyi State on account of the failure by INEC to release the CTCs of results requested for by the party.
At the end of the presentation, counsels to INEC, Bola Tinubu and Vice Kashim Shettima, as well as, APC objected to their admittance, as usual.
Presiding Judge, Justice Haruna Tsammani, however, admitted the tendered documents as exhibits in the court.
The Justice thereafter adjourned till Wednesday, June 7.
