Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, says his administration would accord priority to building of road infrastructure in the state to create easy access to all parts of the state.
Speaking on Sunday during the Thanksgiving Service held at the First Africam Gospel Mission Church at Onuaku Uturu in Isuikwuato local government area for the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi gowdwin Ogah, Otti lamented roads in Abia were dilapidated and impassable.
Otti told the congregation that he arrived late for the service because of the state of the road leading to the area.
“As I was coming here, I was sad because of the state of the road. It took us over two hours to get here. But it shouldn’t have been up to an hour. And it is not any different from other roads in any other part of Abia State. So, we are going to prioritise access. And access, to me, is everything,” the Governor said.
He thanked the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency for supporting him and other Labour candidates during the 2023 general elections, noting that the decision to support Labour Party was borne out of their genuine desire to liberate Abia and change the state’s developmental narrative.
“I want to start by thanking Ndi Uturu for your efforts during the elections. I will not take it for granted. Not only that you supported your brother, but you also have brothers that you also would have supported. But you left them to support small me, from one small village. I thank you and the people of Isuikwuato and Umunneochi,” Otti said, adding “you acted wisely because an elder does not sit by and watch a goat give birth while tethered to a rope.”
The Governor who described the immediate-past Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. uche Sampson Ogah, as a good man, a very competent person and God-fearing, commended the former Minister for supporting his younger brother, Aombi Ogah of the Labour Party, who later emerged victorious at the polls.
However, he made it clear that the former Minister was not just supporting political parties because he wanted “the best to happen to Abia State.”
In his speech, a very happy Amobi Ogah, expressed his gratitude to God for granting him victory during the election; the Governor, “because of his wonderful support,” and profusely thanked his constituents for confidence they have reposed on him, assuring that he would not disappoint them, saying “I will not fail you people because of your support,”
In his sermon, the General Overseer of the First Africa Gospel Mission Church, Archbishop John Maduka, urged the new leaders of Abia to emulate the leadership qualities and sacrifices Biblical leaders, including Moses, Esther and Daniel.
Archbishop Maduka advised the leaders to work for the masses instead of amassing wealth.
The member representing Isialangwa North/Isialangwa South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, his Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency counterpart, Hon. Obi Aguocha, Prince Chris Odinaka Igwe, other top government officials and prominent traditional rulers from Isuikwuato and Umunneochi, among other dignitaries, graced the Thanksgiving Service.
