POS operators hike transaction charges by 100%
Point of Sale (POS) operators under the aegis of the ale have hiked their transaction charges by as much as 100 per cent across board.
According to the group, the increase in charges follows the current economic situation in the country in terms of recent hike in the pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS) also known as petrol which followed the subsidy removal affected by the Federal Government..
Making the disclosure while featuring on Channels Television, Friday, the group’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lagos Chapter, Mr Stephen Adeoye, also warned against ‘unscrupulous’ practices by members who ‘dabble into the business offering ridiculous charges on transactions.’
According to Mr Adeoye, these operators ‘give the wrong impression of the association with their prices which tend to make other operators look bad before our customers.’
Adeoye who released a unified price list for Point of Sales (PoS) transactions in the country, said the minimum charge for transactions has now risen from N50 to N100.
“For transaction between N1000 to N2000, the charge is N100, N3500 to N4000, the charge is N200; N4000 to N6000 the charge is N300; N6500 to 7900 the charge is N400; N8000 to N10, 900, the new charge is N500; N11000 to 16000 the fee is N600; that from N14500 to N17900 the charge is N700; N18000 to N2000 the charge on transaction is now N800,” Adeoye said.
From transfers, the spokesperson said the minimum charge is N100 instead of the previous N50.
Transfers or deposits from N11,000 to N20,900 will incur a service fee N300 while N21,000 to N30,900 will now attract a service charge of N400. Furthermore, from N31,000 to N40,000 will incur a service charge of N500 and from N40,100 to N50,000, it is N600 for deposit or transfer.
“However, we can still reduce it because we are humane but it is not that people will go to a certain POS and get charged lesser than the agreed amount.
“Take a very good look at the prices of paper and fuel as well as the cost of maintenance, so people won’t just get to withdraw money anyhow.
“Look at our association, we also have anti-laundering policies, so our members do not join such people doing the illegal business.
“So we are ready to satisfy our customers so our agents really live out for the purpose of business,” Adeoye said.
