Investors gain N851bn as NGX-ASI increases by 2.48%

 Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased by 2.48% to close at 64,603.69 compared to 63,040.87 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +26.05%.

 Market capitalization increased by N851 billion to N35.1774 trillion from N34.3264 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N22.03 billion from N13.85 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.

At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 1,839,046,861 shares in 14,584 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 22,033,063,696.22, were traded.

Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, July 7), today’s data shows 50% improvement in volume, 59% improvement in turnover, and 40% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 35.2 trillion.

In the aggregate, 128 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 71 gainers and 19 losers. Dangote Cement led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 330.10 per share, followed by MRS Oil Nigeria (+10%), Neimeth International Pharma (+10%) and Jaiz Bank (+10%).

 On the losing side, Pharma-Deko came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.85% at NGN 1.83 per share, followed by Union Dicon Salt (-9.5%), Berger Paints (-9.09%) and Guinea Insurance (-7.69%).

FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 198 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (185m), Sterling Bank (162m) and Transcorp Nigeria (156m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) soared 1,563.28 (2.48%) points to close at 64,603.69, representing a 1-week gain of 4.28%, a 4-week gain of 15.31%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 26.05%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+3.36%; +7.42% 1WK; +44.05% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+2.71%; +5.09% 1WK; +27.56% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+5.13%; +7.43% 1WK; +11.41% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+4.76%; +6.92% 1WK; +44.56% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+4.18%; +3.05% 1WK; +66.76% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.61%; +8.36% 1WK; +84.5% YTD).
