Equities investors lose N883.4bn as NGX-ASI  dips by 2.47%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative Wednesday as the NGX-ASI decreased by 2.47% to close at 64,046.93 compared to 65,669.29 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +24.97%.

 Market capitalization decreased by N883.4 billion to N34.87419 trillion from N35.75758 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N12.69 billion from N9.41 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 1,163,228,654 shares in 13,878 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 12,694,727,512.48, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, July 11), today’s data shows 38% improvement in volume, 35% improvement in turnover, and 56% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 34.9 trillion.

In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 12 gainers and 63 losers. Courteville Business Solutions led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.88 per share, followed by Deap Capital Management & Trust (+10%), Golden Guinea Breweries (+9.88%) and The Initiates (+9.8%).

On the losing side, FBN Holdings came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 19.35 per share, followed by E-Tranzact International (-10%), N.E.M. Insurance Company (-10%) and Transcorp Nigeria (-10%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 178 million traded shares, followed by Japaul Gold and Ventures (110m), Transcorp Nigeria (87.1m) and FCMB Group (86.5m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) plummeted 1,622.36 (-2.47%) points to close at 64,046.93, representing a 1-week gain of 4.1%, a 4-week gain of 14.51%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 24.97%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-2.43%; +5.02% 1WK; +26.9% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-4.02%; +5.68% 1WK; +40.3% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.45%; +6.43% 1WK; +85% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.77%; -0.84% 1WK; +49.51% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.94%; +2.88% 1WK; +19.23% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-2.07%; +4.3% 1WK; +51.96% YTD).
