Equities Market continues on bearish note as NGX-ASI declines by 0.75%.
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Friday by as the NGX-ASI decreased 0.75 % to 62,569.73 compared to 62,748.94 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +22.08%.
Market capitalization decreased for the day by N97.6 billion to N34.06984 trillion from N34.16742 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N60.04 billion from N10.35 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 600,487,398 shares in 9,554 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,827,390,726.51, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, July 13), today’s data shows 25% decline in volume, 16% decline in turnover, and 7% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 34.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 118 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 13 gainers and 57 losers. National Salt Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 28.05 per share, followed by John Holt (+9.7%), Skyway Aviation Handling Co. (+9.67%) and The Initiates (+8.93%).
On the losing side, Flour Mills Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 30.60 per share, followed by UAC of Nigeria (-10%), Wema Bank (-10%) and Champion Breweries (-10%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 94.2 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (54.1m), Fidelity Bank (48.7m) and Zenith Bank (36.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 179.21 (-0.29%) points to close at 62,569.73, representing a 1-week loss of 0.75%, a 4-week gain of 4.31%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 22.08%.
