Investors gain N145.12bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.41%

 Nigeria’s  Equities Market closed positive on Monday  as the NGX-ASI increased by 0.41% to close at 65,268.28 compared to 65,003.39 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +27.35%.

Market capitalization increased by N145.12 billion to 35,540.11 trillion from N35, 394.99 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N12.94 billion from N14.26 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.

At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 831,500,636 shares in 9,768 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 12,936,318,594.60, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, July 21), today’s data shows 8% improvement in volume, 9% decline in turnover, but 10% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 35.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 32 gainers and 33 losers. National Salt Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 31.90 per share, followed by Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (+10%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+10%) and Lasaco Assurance (+10%).

On the losing side, Ikeja Hotel came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 2.70 per share, followed by Multiverse Mining & Exploration (-9.97%), Ellah Lakes (-9.86%) and Abbey Mortgage Bank (-9.82%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 347 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (62.8m), FCMB Group (45.7m) and Fidelity Bank (42.8m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 264.89 (0.41%) points to close at 65,268.28, representing a 1-week gain of 3.69%, a 4-week gain of 10.23%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 27.35%.

 Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+1.4%; +7.76% 1WK; +45.95% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.46%; +3.76% 1WK; +29.09% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.04%; +5.07% 1WK; +54.66% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.53%; +2.71% 1WK; +20.78% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.26%; +4.95% 1WK; +45.38% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+0.23%; +5.5% 1WK; +49.95% YTD).
