Investors gain N86bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.24%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Friday by 0.24% as the NGX-ASI increased to 65,558.91 from 65,401.82 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +27.92%. The market performance for the week increased by 1.29% to 65,558.91 from 65,202.41 recorded at the beginning of the week (21/08/2023).
Market capitalization increased by N86 billion to N35.880 trillion from N35.794 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover by value decreased to N4.23 billion from N12.90 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 356,015,589 shares in 6,569 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,233,536,259.75, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, August 24), today’s data shows 39% decline in volume, 67% decline in turnover, and 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 35.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 24 losers. Skye Shelter Fund led the gainers with 9.97% share price appreciation closing at NGN 83.80 per share, followed by National Salt Company (+9.95%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+9.94%) and N.E.M. Insurance Company (+9.9%).
On the losing side, Prestige Assurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.43% at NGN 0.48 per share, followed by Tantalizers (-9.38%), Omatek Ventures (-9.09%) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (-8.89%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 76.7 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (53m), Universal Insurance Company (17.8m) and FCMB Group (16.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 157.09 (0.24%) points to close at 65,558.91, representing a 1-week gain of 1.26%, a 4-week gain of 0.77%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 27.92%.
