Investors Lose N13bn as NGX-ASI dips by 0.03%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed Negative on Wednesday by 0.03% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 68,335.72 from 68,359.22 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +33.34%.
Market capitalization decreased by N12.87 billion to N37.400 trillion from N37.413 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N5.39 billion from N5.89 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 566,631,350 shares in 8,201 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,386,238,398.73, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, September 19), today’s data shows 16% decline in volume, 9% decline in turnover, but 7% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 37.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 27 gainers and 29 losers. Sunu Assurances Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.88 per share, followed by Berger Paints (+9.91%), Oando (+9.77%) and Chams (+9.77%).
On the losing side, Transcorp Hotels came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 45.90 per share, followed by Ikeja Hotel (-9.93%), Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-7.41%) and Secure Electronic Technology (-7.41%).
Oando recorded the highest volume of 110 million traded shares, followed by Courteville Business Solutions (66m), Chams (56.4m) and Japaul Gold and Ventures (36.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 23.50 (-0.03%) points to close at 68,335.72, representing a 1-week gain of 1.42%, a 4-week gain of 4.34%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.34%.
