Otti to lay foundation of Abia industrial park at Owaza on Saturday
From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
All roads will lead to the oil-rich community of Owaza in Ukwa West local government area of Abia State this Saturday (September 30) for the groundbreaking ceremony for Abia Industrial Park to be performed by the state governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, who made this known during a briefing at Government House, Umuahia, on Monday, September 25, 2023, said this was part of the decision taken by the State Executive Council, during its meeting for this week, adding that all arrangements were in place to ensure a very peaceful and successful ceremony.
The Abia Industrial and Innovative Park, sitting on 1, 000 hectares of land, according to Kanu, would house manufacturing concerns, a modular refinery, a gas plant, an incubator and a real estate, among other facilities. It would be 90 per cent private sector-driven investment.
“It is a very strategic project, one of the signature projects of this government because of the trickle-down effect the project will have over the period on the lives of Abians and the investment community where people will be investing and others will have the opportunity to get job opportunities. The host community will be there to protect the project and it will bring some level of development to the area,” the Commissioner said.
On September 6, 2023, Governor Otti commissioned the 1.2 Umuokomiri Obehie road which is a major link connecting Obehie to the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway, with a promise that he would be back before the end of the month to perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the Abia Industrial Park at Owaza. The road was reconstructed by the Abia State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC).
