Preliminary investigation indicts nurse, Naira Marley, Sam Larry over Mohbad’s death – Police
Lagos Police Command says its preliminary investigations into the death of contemporary Afrobeat musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, indicted the auxiliary nurse engaged to treat the4 deceased artiste, as well as others, including singer Abdulazeez Fashola (Naira Marley), showbiz entrepreneur, Balogun Olamilekan Eletu (Sam Larry).
Addressing the press, Friday, on their preliminary findings over the shocking death of 27-year-old Mohbad, who died On September 12, in the state, the Lagos Police Commissioner, CP Idowu Owohunwa said a total of five suspects are being investigated for their alleged roles in the sequence of events that led to Mohbad’s death.
According to the police commissioner, the five suspects were, including auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who has been identified as the prime suspect. Other suspects are; Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Ibrahim Oluwatosin Owodunni (Primeboy).
Mohbad’s death has continued to raise controversy among fans and music scene followers, with old videos of the singer alleging bullying and physical assault resurfacing online.
Both naira Marley and Sam Larry were earlier in the week arrested at the airport, while Primeboy said he turned himself in to the police.
Lagos State Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunwa said in a press briefing on Friday that the five suspects are being investigated for their alleged roles in the sequence of events that led to Mohbad’s death.
The police chief stated that Ogedengbe gave Mohbad ‘multiple and highly potent’ shots of injections.
Owohunwa testified that the shots, which included Tetanus Toxoid, paracetamol, and Cetrazone, an antibiotic, were given to Mobad on September 12.
The drugs allegedly caused an acute reaction, including vomiting, goosebumps, and convulsions.
“Ogedengbe was unqualified to execute the position of house nurse and did so in a non-clinical setting and in a careless professional manner.
“Ibrahim Oluwatosin Owodunni aka Primeboy, described as Mohbad’s childhood pal, is another suspect.
“Primeboy attended a show with Mohbad on September 10, which concluded in a physical confrontation between the two, resulting in the late singer’s injury.
“The management of the injury subsequently resulted in his death,” the police commissioner disclosed.
“Another suspect, Mr Ayobami Sadiq aka Spending, who was believed to have invited the auxiliary nurse, has also been listed as a suspect. He is suspected of conspiracy to commit a felony.
“Sam Larry, whose true name is Samson Balogun, was detained and remains in prison for his role in the Afrobeats star’s death and in relation to the deceased’s viral videos about bullying and violence, according to authorities,” the commissioner stated.
Continuing, CP Owohunwa said Mohbad was injected three times by the nurse, Ogedengbe. As of today, a total of 26 witnesses have been interviewed.
“Those interrogated include Mohbad’s father, mother, sisters, brother, wife and manager among several others.
“Mohbad was brought in dead to the hospital, and he was certified dead by doctors on duty on September 12.
“The nurse, Ogedengbe, who was invited by Mohbad’s friend, Ayobami Sodiq aka Spending, to inject the singer at his residence, administered three injections believed to have led to the chain of reactions that eventually led to the singer’s death.
“Mohbad began vomiting and developed goosebumps after the injections,” Owohunwa said.
On the roles played by Naira Marley and Sam Larry in the death of Mohbad, the police commissioner said: confirmed that there are ample evidences that both persons assaulted late singer, while the deceased was alive.
”While Abdulazeez Fashola (Naira Marley) and Samson Balogun Eletu (Sam Larry) denied allegations of criminal liability in the death of Mohbad and pleaded an alibi to justify their not being complicit in the incidents that occurred from 10th to 12th September, 2023, there are ample electronic and credible witnesses’ evidence linking them to cyberbullying, threat to life, assault occasioning harm and conduct likely to cause breach of peace against the deceased in his lifetime following their roles in the incidents that occurred at The Chandelier Club and Elegushi Beach in June, 2023 as well as the alleged assault on Mohbad in October, 2022 around the residence of Naira Marley at Lekki,” the commissioner said.
While alive, Mohbad had alleged that he was assaulted by Naira Marley after he demanded a change of management as he moved to quit the Marlians record label.
