Investors record N140bn loss as NGX-ASI declined by 0.38%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Thursday by 0.38% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 67,098.80 from 67,353.23 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.92%.
Market capitalization decreased by N140 billion to N36.864 trillion from N37.004 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N4.48 billion from N4.69 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 298,687,259 shares in 5,453 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,483,167,662.71, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, October 18), today’s data shows 25% decline in volume, 5% decline in turnover, and 12% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 25 losers. Learn Africa led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3.30 per share, followed by Daar Communications (+9.52%), UPDC (+8%) and Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+6.8%).
On the losing side, McNichols came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.82% at NGN 0.62 per share, followed by Omatek Ventures (-8.7%), Stanbic IBTC Holdings (-8.49%) and Champion Breweries (-8.09%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 56.3 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (33.9m), Access Holdings (22.2m) and Transcorp Nigeria (21.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 254.43 (-0.38%) points to close at 67,098.80, representing a 1-week loss of 0.05%, a 4-week loss of 1.84%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.92%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.36%; -0.13% 1WK; +33.91% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.91%; -0.69% 1WK; +40.22% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -0.05% 1WK; +98.25% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0%; -0.07% 1WK; +14.69% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.23%; +0.52% 1WK; +37.34% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.28%; +0.74% 1WK; +95.48% YTD).
