Investors record N21.14bn loss as NGX-ASI declines by 0.06%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Monday by 0.06% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 66,876.92 from 66,915.41 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.49%.
Market capitalization decreased by N21.14 billion to N36.742 trillion from N36.763 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N4.388 billion from N6.38 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 314,619,296 shares in 6,133 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,388,128,655.73, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, October 20), today’s data shows 53% improvement in volume, 31% decline in turnover, but 23% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 23 gainers and 21 losers. Thomas Wyatt Nigeria led the gainers with 9.92% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3.99 per share, followed by Academy Press (+9.71%), Ikeja Hotel (+9.52%) and Chams (+7.38%).
On the losing side, VFD Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.99% at NGN 242.40 per share, followed by McNichols (-9.68%), University Press (-9.32%) and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-5.22%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 47.2 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (40.3m), FCMB Group (29.1m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (27.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 38.49 (-0.06%) points to close at 66,876.92, representing a 1-week loss of 0.24%, a 4-week loss of 2.04%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.49%.
