Investors gain N874.41bn as NGX-ASI advances by 1.92%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday by 1.92% as the NGX-ASI increased to 84,640.89 from 83,042.96 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +13.20%.
Market capitalization increased today by N874.42 trillion to N46.317 trillion from N45.442 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover increased to N11.031 billion from N9.098 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 807,507,858 shares in 13,647 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 11,031,432,435.84, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, January 12), today’s data shows 34% improvement in volume, 21% improvement in turnover, and 17% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 46.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 127 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 68 gainers and eight losers. PZ Cussons Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 32.45 per share, followed by AXA Mansard Insurance (+10%), Chams (+10%) and Daar Communications (+10%).
On the losing side, Abbey Mortgage Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.52% at NGN 2.47 per share, followed by Julius Berger Nigeria (-3.54%), Custodian & Allied (-3.45%) and Africa Prudential (-2.78%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 66.9 million traded shares, followed by Aiico Insurance (62.3m), Wema Bank (41.6m) and Jaiz Bank (39.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 1,597.93 (1.92%) points to close at 84,640.89, representing a 1-week gain of 5.37%, a 4-week gain of 17.07%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 13.2%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.85%; +5.27% 1WK; +13.52% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+7.23%; +8.59% 1WK; +31.67% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+4.4%; +8.69% 1WK; +13.33% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+2.96%; +6.12% 1WK; +13.49% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.78%; +11.41% 1WK; +16.46% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+1.44%; +4.29% 1WK; +16.32% YTD).
