Equities Market continues on bearish trend as NGX-ASI declines by 1.31% .
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Wednesday by 1.31% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 99,266.02 from 100,582.89 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.63%.
Market capitalization dipped by N720.59 billion to N54.317 trillion from N55.037 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover decreased to N5.826 billion from N6.120 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 396,228,353 shares in 10,549 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,826,234,056.16, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, February 27), today’s data shows 41% improvement in volume, 5% decline in turnover, but 15% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 54.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with five gainers and 53 losers. PZ Cussons Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 29.15 per share, followed by Juli (+9.93%), AXA Mansard Insurance (+1.53%) and Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (+0.69%).
On the losing side, Lafarge Wapco came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 31.95 per share, followed by Nigerian Breweries (-10%), Oando (-10%) and FCMB Group (-10%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 52.6 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (39.5m), Access Holdings (35.3m) and Zenith Bank (30.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 1,412.32 (-1.38%) points to close at 100,582.89, representing a 1-week loss of 0.47%, a 4-week loss of 2.45%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 34.52%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-1.32%; -0.34% 1WK; +35.99% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0%; +0.57% 1WK; +33.75% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -0.3% 1WK; +25.34% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.05%; +1.59% 1WK; +80.88% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.17%; +2.04% 1WK; +46.81% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (-2.19%; -4.77% 1WK; +17.21% YTD).
