Equities Market gains N26.64bn as NGXASI appreciates by 0.05%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Thursday by 0.05% as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,169.30 from 98,121.30 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.29%
Market capitalization increased by N26.64billion to N55,520.89 trillion from N55,494.25 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover decreased to N6.516 billion from N9.576 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 297,202,321 shares in 7,417 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,516,095,180.68, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, April 24), today’s data shows 25% decline in volume, 32% decline in turnover, and 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 24 losers. Transcorp Hotels led the gainers with 9.75% share price appreciation closing at NGN 96.50 per share, followed by Livestock Feeds (+9.42%), Tantalizers (+9.37%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+7.44%).
On the losing side, Sterling Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.69% at NGN 3.82 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (-9.57%), International Energy Insurance (-9.3%) and The Initiates (-9.09%). Zenith Bank recorded the highest volume of 48.5 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (39.9m), Transcorp Nigeria (28.5m) and United Bank for Africa (22.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 48.00 (0.05%) points to close at 98,169.30, representing a 1-week loss of 1.68%, a 4-week loss of 5.96%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.29%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.08%; -1.72% 1WK; +30.33% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.88%; +0.93% 1WK; +19.3% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.2%; -0.59% 1WK; +34% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +0.38% 1WK; +73.45% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -1.41% 1WK; +22% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.05%; -0.83% 1WK; +40.57% YTD).
