Otti’s vision to make Abia global medical tourist centre’ll transform healthcare delivery – Chukwu

The dream by the Dr. Alex Otti-led administration to build a world-class Medical Village in Abia State has brought excitement to Dr Oluebube Chukwu, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Due Process.
Dr. Chukwu noted that when the Medical Village is realised in about 2026, it would turn Abia into a global medical tourist haven and transform healthcare delivery in the state and beyond .
During his monthly Media Chat, the May edition which held on May 9, 2024, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia, Governor Otti had said that his desire to build the Medical Village was to fulfil one of his campaign promises.
“We have started the process of setting up one of our campaign promises, the Abia Medical Village,” Otti Abians during the Media Chat which is broadcast live.
He added: “It will take us time to complete it. But when completed, our vision is that medical tourism would be reversed from India, and some other parts of Europe and America, to Abia State.
“Everything that you cand find in a top-notch medical centre anywhere in the world would be available here. And we are receiving massive support from Nigerians in Diaspora, not just Abians, and they are indicating that they will be happy to help.
“So, we hope to be there. In another two or three years, we will be done with the Medical Village.
Speaking with newsmen in Umuahia after the Governor’s Media Chat, Chukwu noted that the Medical Village, when set up, would bring about huge transformation in the healthcare industry, boost healthcare delivery, improve outcomes, as well as lower healthcare costs with consistent, coordinated and comprehensive healthcare delivery in the state.
“The Abia Medical Village, when set up, will provide care to meet the needs of patients in any part of the state and beyond, as well as equip healthcare providers with tools and resources needed to care for patient to the best of their ability.
“Remember also that Governor Otti has promised during his monthly Media chat that his in vision of Abia Medical Village, everything that you can find in any top-notch medical centre around the world will be made available,” he said
According to him, with the massive support the Governor was already receiving from Nigerians in diaspora, not just Abians, who were indicating that they would be happy to help, Abia will become a medical tourist state when the Medical Village is in place,” Chukwu said.
