Equity investors gain N25.72bn as NGXASI advances by 0.05%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Tuesday with 0.05% as the NGX-ASI increased to 100,067.77 from 100,020.83 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.68%.
Market capitalization also increased by N25.72 billion to N56,607 trillion from N56,581 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, the market turnover also increased to N4.116 billion from N3.713 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 365,642,039 shares in 8,665 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,116,034,659.74, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, July 1), today’s data shows 33% improvement in volume, 11% improvement in turnover, but 14% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 24 losers. Cornerstone Insurance Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.09 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance (+9.59%), Fidson Healthcare (+9.26%) and Guinea Insurance (+8.82%).
On the losing side, RT Briscoe came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.86% at NGN 0.64 per share, followed by Cutix (-6.82%), C&I Leasing (-6.25%) and Prestige Assurance Company (-5.56%). Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 61.5 million traded shares, followed by Aiico Insurance (31.7m), United Bank for Africa (25.9m) and United Capital (25.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 46.94 (0.05%) points to close at 100,067.77, representing a 1-week gain of 0.86%, a 4-week gain of 0.8%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.83%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.01%; +0.87% 1WK; +33% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.99%; +2.25% 1WK; +22.39% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.79%; +3.35% 1WK; -6.81% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.42%; +2.26% 1WK; +16.19% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.12%; +1.55% 1WK; +36.69% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (-0%; +0.43% 1WK; +35.48% YTD).
