From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed profound sadness over the death of one of Nigeria’s foremost media entrepreneurs, late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, saying that his impacts on the media industry would endure for generations.
National President of NUJ, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, MFR, in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, July 27, 2024, noted that late Senator Ubah “was not just a political stalwart; he was a towering figure in the media industry.”
The two-time late Senator represented Anambra South in the Senate of Nigeria’s National Assembly. He died in London on Saturday.
The statement which Dr. Isiguzo personally signed reads in part: “With profound sadness and a deep sense of loss, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) mourns the untimely passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the esteemed chairman of Authority Newspapers and the owner of Authority Media in Anambra.
“Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was not just a political stalwart; he was a towering figure in the media industry, known for his commitment to journalistic excellence and the empowerment of media practitioners.”
According to the NUJ boss, Ubah’s media outfits “have been a beacon of truth, integrity, and fearless journalism, providing a platform for a good number of journalists to flourish and make impactful contributions to our society.”
“Senator Ubah’s legacy in the media landscape and his indelible impact on journalism in Nigeria will endure for generations to come,” he added, lamenting that the void left by his departure “is immense and deeply felt across the nation, as “his leadership, vision, and relentless pursuit of a free and vibrant press will be sorely missed.”
“The NUJ extends its heartfelt condolences to the Ubah family, the staff of Authority Newspapers and Authority Media, and all those who had the privilege of working with and knowing Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
“In this moment of grief, we stand united in our sorrow and pledge to uphold the values and principles that he so passionately championed,” the statement added.
He prayed for the soul of the departed Senator to find eternal peace, while wishing that Ubah’s legacy would continue to “inspire and guide us in our pursuit of a just and informed society.”
