Equities investors lose N193.16bn as NGX-ASI decreases by 0.35%
Nigeria’s equities market closed negative on Wednesday, as the NGX-ASI decreased to 96,537.48 from 96,873.74 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.11%.
Market capitalization decreased by N193.16 billion to N55.453 trillion from N55.647 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. However, the market turnover decreased to N8.178 billion from N10.411 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 389,232,448 shares in 12,039 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,179,838,430.04, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, September 3), today’s data shows 18% decline in volume, 21% decline in turnover, and 4% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the NGX is NGN 55.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 118 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 33 losers. Daar Communications led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.66 per share, followed by Industrial & Medical Gases (+9.72%), Deap Capital Management & Trust (+9.52%) and Tantalizers (+8.47%).
On the losing side, Oando came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 81.90 per share, followed by The Initiates (-9.95%), RT Briscoe (-9.72%) and Secure Electronic Technology (-9.23%). Oando recorded the highest volume of 37.2 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (33.7m), Transcorp Nigeria (29m) and FTN Cocoa Processors (22.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 336.26 (-0.35%) points to close at 96,537.48, representing a 1-week gain of 0.35%, a 4-week loss of 0.58%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.11%.
