2025 Budget: Cross River governor presents 498b budget estimates to state assembly

The Cross River State governor Senator Bassey Otu has presented the 2025 budget estimates of 498 billion naira to the state house of assembly.
The budget estimates indicate that 328 billion naira is for capital expenditure which is 66% while 170 billion is for recurrent expenditure which is 34% of the budget.
Infrastructure takes the highest allocation with 100 billion naira and is closely followed with education with 81 billion naira.
Other sectoral allocations are health with 25 billion naira, judiciary with 20 billion naira, the House of Assembly with 18 billion naira and aviation with 16 billion naira.
The governor explained that the budget estimates is benchmarked on the Sustainable Development Goals and is aimed at continuity of projects and programmes.
Senator Otu said, “The 2025 Budget, like the previous year’s budget, is benchmarked on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“SDG 9-Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure, SDG 4-Quality Education, SDG 3-Good Health and Well-being, SDG 2-Zero Hunger and SDG 16-Peace, Justice and Strong Institution
“The decision to continue with the SDG benchmark is to guarantee continuity of projects and programmes which may not be completed in this current budget circle. This necessitated the need to roll over to 2025 fiscal year”, the governor said.
The governor also told the assembly that the budget which is tagged: “Budget of Sustainable Growth”, is a product of a wide range of consultation and consensus.
He also said the major sources to find the 2025 budget are Federal Allocation, Grants from International Organizations and Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR).
