Abia begins recruitment of 4, 500 teachers, opens portal for applications

The Abia State Government has released the portal address which those interested in the recently announced 4, 500 teachers’ recruitment exercise should apply through.
Successful applicants would be posted to teach in Public Primary, Secondary and Technical Colleges in the State.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, in a statement in Umuahia on Wednesday, urged interested applicants to visit the Ministry’s website: www.mobse-abiastate.ng.com. follow the instructions, fill the form and submit online.
Elder Ubochi stated that to be eligible, applicants must have NCE, BSC and Bachelor in Education with Post Graduate Diploma in Education and that applicants must not be more than 45 years of age, adding that applications must be submitted within two weeks from the date of the portal publication and release of guidelines.
The Commissioner explained that shortlisted candidates would be notified through SMS or Email for test, and that successful candidates in the test would be invited for an oral interview and Micro-Teaching Practice.
The recruitment is in fulfillment of the promise by Governor Alex Otti to recruit 5, 000 teachers during his inauguration on May 29, 2023.
Sequel to fulfilling the promise, the government lifted its embargo on employment of teachers into Primary, Junior and Senior secondary schools in the state, following the Governor’s approval for recruitment of 4, 500.
The Committee Chairman, Abia State Teachers Recruitment Exercise, Dr Uzoamaka Amah-Mba, who confirmed the development to newsmen in Umuahia, saying that the recruitment process would be executed online and those who wish to apply should do so through the portal as physical submission of applications would not be allowed.
“Every application will be completed and submitted online,” she emphasized.
Dr Amah-Mba, who is also the Board Secretary of Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), said that Governor Alex Otti has directed that the recruitment exercise must be devoid of any form of corruption, insisting that it should be free for both indigenes and non-indigenes residing in the state.
She sternly warned that any person caught extorting money from the applicants would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
According to her, traditional rulers and opinion leaders have been enlisted to assist in sensitizing their people on the need to take the teachers recruitment exercise seriously and further advised all eligible applicants to study hard, ahead of the recruitment examination.
