Ugwuanyi lauds NGO for empowering indigent widows, others in Enugu North

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has lauded a non-government organization (NGO), Gburus Widows Care Initiative (GWCI) for empowering widows and physically challenged persons in Enugu North Senatorial District.
The Governor made his feelings known in Nsukka on Tuesday during the flag-off of empowerment for 500 widows and physically challenged persons in the district by the group.
He commended the Founder of GWCI, Dr. Ben Ugwoke for the initiative, describing it as laudable.
The governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Peter Okonkwo, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment so as to improve their lives.
“By helping the poor, especially indigent widows and physically challenged persons, you are keying in the vision of my administration and attracting more God’s blessings.
“When you put smiles and tears of joy on faces of the needy, God will surely reward you.
“I commend Ugwuoke for empowering widows and physically challenged and urged others groups in the state to emulate this good example Ugwuanyi.
“Make judicious use of money that will be given to you so that you will lift yourself out of poverty as well as appreciate this kind gesture of GWCI,” he said
Earlier, Mr Ben Ugwoke Ugwoke said GWCI was born out of his passion to assist the widows and physically challenged people to cushion the present harsh economic conditions in the country.
“The initiative targets to empower 500 indigent widows and physically challenged persons from the six local government areas of the district. GWCI is an initiative with the burden to improve the lives of the poor by supporting them to have means of livelihood.
“This programme has a target of 500 beneficiaries, it will be carried out in batches, the 220 persons here today is the first batch. They are selected from the six LGAs of the Enugu North Senatorial District.
“They will be trained and guided in the area of any micro business of their choice and will be give certain amount of money to start the business,” he said.
