PDP NWC member withdraws resignation letter
One of the seven members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who reportedly tendered resignation letters to the party, has now withdrawn it.
Diran Odeyemi, who is the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, withdrew his resignation letter, as he also pledged to work with the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus led-NWC of the party to ensure a successful national convention, where a new set of leaders will be elected.
In a letter dated Wednesday, August 4 and personally by him, Odeyemi said his decision was in view of the activation of the internal conflict resolution by the party leadership.
“I write to withdraw my letter of Resignation as the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of our great party.
“This decision is taken in view of the activation of the internal method of resolving issues by our leaders across the length and breadth of Nigeria.
“I also wish to state expressly that whatever embarrassment the resignation has caused the party, its leaders, members and supporters is highly regretted.
“Most importantly, in view of the fact that the tenure of myself and other members of the present National Working Committee (NWC) will expire in another three months, it is my view that the boat should not be rocked under any guise.
“Consequently, I pledge my loyalty and commitment to the party and the Prince Uche Secondus led NWC, and will continue to play my roles to ensure a successful National Convention, which will usher in new national officers.
“May God endow our leaders with wisdom to navigate the ship of the party to a safe harbour. Amen.”
It would be recalled that seven members of the PDP’s NWC, all deputy executives, had submitted their resignation letters to the party citing their disapproval over the planned second term bid to the National Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus.
PDP’s National Organising Secretary, Colonel Austin Akobundu (rtd), who confirmed the development, Tuesday, however, added that the officials were deputies in the NWC.
It was also gathered that the officials resigned in protest over the purported second tenure bid of the National Chairman, Mr Uche Secondu, as, according to them, they cannot work with the present NWC headed by him.
A crisis which had been brewing within the hierarchy of the party boiled over as some governors and other stakeholders asked the National Chairman to resign before the National Convention of the party scheduled for December, this year.
A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Joy Emordi, has also defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for reasons relating to the crisis at the party.
