Abaribe dares Ikpeazu; joins APGA
…resigns as Senate Minority Leader, from PDP
From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
Senate Minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pitched his tent with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) where he has already picked the Senatorial Nomination and Expression of Interest forms.
Similarly, Senator Abaribe who is the current Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, has also resigned his position as the Minority Leader of the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
The Senator conveyed his decision to resign from the PDP and as the Senate Minority Leader in two separate letters.
In the letter to the Chairman of the PDP in his Ward 5 in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, dated May 24, 2022, Abaribe wrote:
“I write to inform you of my decision to resign as member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity, and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents.”
The Senator in an interview with Channels Television confirmed the rumours making the rounds that he was heading APGA.
He said during the interview that he would be vying for the Abia South senatorial seat on the platform of APGA.
In another letter to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, notifying him of his resignation from the PDP, Abaribe wrote:
“This is to notify you and my dear colleagues in the Senate that I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party through my ward. This also means my resignation as Minority Leader of the Senate.
“I wish to thank you and my dear colleagues in the leadership of the Senate for the warm camaraderie we enjoyed while I was Minority Leader.”
The Senator’s resignation is his latest move after withdrawing from the governorship primary of the PDP in Abia State which was held last Wednesday, citing irregularities.
