Abi Paramount Ruler emerges Chairman Cross River State Council of Chiefs

The Paramount Ruler of Abi Local Government Area His Royal Majesty Ovai (Elder) Solomon Osin
Edward JP, has been appointed Chairman of the Cross River State Council of Chiefs.
This follows the removal of the erstwhile Chairman HRH Etinyin Etim Okon Edet, the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi Local Government Area.
The governor in a release which was signed by the Secretary to the State Government Professor Anthony Owan Enoh said the appointment is based on the powers conferred on the governor and will last for two years.
“His Excellency, the Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, in exercise of the power vested in him by Section 3 of the Council of
Chiefs Law, Cap C15 Laws of Cross River State 2004, has approved
the appointment of His Royal Majesty Ovai (Elder) Solomon Osin
Edward JP, Paramount Ruler of Abi Local Government Area, as
Chairman, State Council of Chiefs.
“The appointment of His Royal Majesty Ovai Osim Edward is for a term of 2 years effective from 21st June, 2024.
“Issued at Calabar this 21st day of June, 2024”, the release stated.
About a week ago, the state house of assembly passed a resolution calling for the appointment of a new chairman of the state council of chiefs.
The Assembly said the former chairman overstayed his two year term by staying for over ten years.
The governor subsequently dissolved the state council of chiefs on June 14th in deference to the resolution of the state’s 10th assembly headed by Hon. Elvert Ayambem.
