Abia ADC Governorship Candidate says sincere leaders needed to build new Nigeria
From BONIFACE OKORO, Umuahia
Governorship Candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, has says that a new Nigeria was possible, if only Nigerian leaders could accept responsibility and take the development of Nigeria as a serious business.
Interacting with newsmen in Umuahia, Bishop Onuoha said he was convinced that a new Nigeria could be achieved when leaders are committed to transformation and transparency, adding that whatever changes that were desired, it must first begin with the individual.
The Methodist Bishop emphasized on the need for leaders to portray the exact attitude they seek from their citizens. ”If you don’t want people to lie, you must be ready to tell the truth at all times. If you don’t want people to steal, as a leader, you must not steal public funds,” he said.
The ADC governorship hopeful added: “Today, what we suffer are as a result of the actions of our leaders. Insecurity have become the order of the day, because our leaders are not telling us the truth. How did insecurity begin? It is because our leaders are not transparent to disclose the true position of things.”
According to him, the current security situation confronting the nation was as a result of negligence, adding that if insecurity must be curbed, it must be tackled from the root. He added that to end insecurity in Nigeria, governments must be ready to involve everyone and also give up their security vote for the fight.
He said he was envisaging a new society if only leaders could accept their responsibilities and stop shifting them to the populace.
The 2023 Abia ADC guber candidate also disclosed that he was not unaware of the challenges confronting the state, adding that he has garnered much experience to address them adequately, having served in various capacities and contributing his quota to the development of the state and nation.
