Abia ADP to establish polling unit executives
[From BONIFACE OKORO, Umuahia]
Abia chapter of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) says it would establish Polling Unit-based executives to facilitate its desire to capture power at all levels in the state come 2023.
The party expressed this desire for victory in the 2023 general elections in Abia during its Congress held in Umuahia at the weekend.
Speaking during the party’s ward, local government and state “Non-Elective Congress,” the State Chairman, Deacon Benjamin Arisa, explained that the party was insisting on “Polling Unit Executive Structure” as its machinery for winning all elective positions at all levels in the state because power resides at the polling units.
“Our focus is on the polling units where the business of election resides. We will either win or form a good alternative at all levels. The polling unit is our document for the election. Either we win or we become a credible opposition or alternative,” Arisa explained.
“Though the INEC operates at the ward levels, ADP is looking at the Polling Units in order to exert force at that level and empower it,” he said.
According to him, the party wants to show that “at any level, it has the capacity and all it takes to be a credible alternative.”
The chairman further disclosed that ADP has a hint on where the next governor can come from in the state, adding that the emergence of the party in the state has “put the heat on the people of Abia.”
The Non-Elective Congress was ratified by the delegates and had Deacon Benjamin Arisa as the state Chairman, Chief Paul Meregini as the State Secretary, Lady Victoria Iheanacho, Woman Leader and Ifeanyi Nwankwo as the Youth Leader.
It was witnessed by the party’s National Congress Convention Committee led by Dr. Jude Ohuche.
