Abia APC faction inaugurates state chairman

In keeping with its vow to resist any imposition, the Chief Donatus Nwankpa- led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State Chapter, Thursday, inaugurated its State Working Committee (SWC).

The SWC, led by a former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Iheanacho Obioma (Chomen), was inaugurated by faction’s State Chairman, Chief Donatus Nwankpa.

Nwankpa, handed over the reins of the party leadership to Obioma at the 38 Azikiwe Road State Secretariat of APC in Umuahia, Abia State capital.

According to Nwankpa, APC, under his watch, rose from obscurity to limelight, stressing that the emergence of Obioma as the new State Chairman of the party marks the beginning of a new era in the party in the state.

He said that the party cannot be high-jacked by one man who had refused to submit himself to the leadership of the party.

Nwankpa insisted that there was no faction in Abia APC, but that there was a section of the party loyal to the National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni.

In his acceptance speech Obioma, lauded the members of the party for founding him worthy to be their leader, as he assured that he would do the job to best of his ability.

He urged members of the party to hold regular meetings at the Ward and Local Government levels of the party to strengthen their growth.

“Abia APC has discovered that all Abia residents want a change of the government in the state.

“We are determined to bring that change to people of the state come 2023.

“We are therefore soliciting the support of all and sundry to assist us in our quest to bring this change to Abia State,” Obioma said.

The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state Engr. Mike Odoemena, told journalists that Obioma, is the authentic state chairman of the APC, while the Secretariat remains that of No. 38 Azikwe road Umuahia.

Inauguration of Obioma is coming on the heels of the inauguration of Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, last week, in Abuja as the Abia APC Chairman by the National Secretariat of the party.

Ononogbu was elected the state Chairman from the High Chief Ikechi Emenike-led faction of the Abia APC.

Parallel congresses held by the two factions, produced two state chairmen in Abia but those elected by the Chief Ikechi Emenike faction appears to have the sympathy of the APC National Secretariat.

However, the Chief Donatus Nwankpa- faction has vowed to resist what they called imposition by the National Secretariat.
