From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
The Abia State Government has embarked on a comprehensive awareness campaign to enlighten residents about the existence of Abia Emergency Tripod System which integrates security, medical emergencies, and fire services. It is designed to enhance life-saving emergency services across the state..
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, Fire and Medical Emergencies, Mr. Chukwunenye Alajemba, explained, during a road walk in Umuahia, that the campaign aims at educating residents on how to access Abia State emergency services.
“The emergency services provided by the government comprise the security system, medical emergency and the fire service and is referred to as the Abia State Emergency Tripod System.
“We decided to go to every nook and cranny of Abia to inform the people of Abia that the government has provided very suitable state-of-the-art emergency services.
“We will go to the 17 local government areas to inform the people of Abia that the Governor has introduced in the state, an emergency system that can stand the test of time and it is free,” he said.
Mr. Alajemba also explained that the system is designed to provide rapid responses to emergencies, adding that it was part of the state government’s efforts to improve healthcare access, safeguard investments, and ensure sustainable development.
He assured that the emergency services personnel were committed to quick response to emergencies, within seven to ten minutes, with a specific focus on medical cases, such as asphyxiation and other critical medical emergencies that require a response within few minutes.
The Homeland Security boss stressed that quick response remains very vital, pointing out that in cases of asphyxiation, lack of oxygen for just four minutes can result in brain death, making resuscitation nearly impossible.
“Time is always of the essence in emergencies, and that’s why our ambulance services are dedicated to serving the people. We assure you that once you call us, we will respond promptly.” Alajemba said.
According to him, highly trained and certified paramedics had been engaged in the operation of the tripod emergency system and added that plans were underway to train homeland security personnel and fire service teams to enhance their emergency response capabilities to boost the system.
The ambulances, he said, have been strategically stationed in Umuahia, Aba, and Ohafia, to ensure prompt response while patrol vans would be sent out to the rural communities in response to emergency calls.
The Governor’s aide said that efforts were in place to secure more ambulances for increased coverage and called on well-meaning individuals and organizations to support the government’s efforts in establishing an efficient and sustainable emergency system.
He urged residents to utilize the emergency system by calling dedicated line – 08133556900 in the event of any situation requiring immediate assistance.
“We want Abians to know that time is of the essence in emergencies. Our ambulance services are dedicated to ensuring swift and professional care for our people. Once you call, we will respond promptly,” Alajemba assured
